AWARD OF PhD. GRANTS

 

 

The jury for the Fundación Juanelo Turriano grants has announced their award in this edition to the following beneficiaries:

 

  • María Luisa Barahona Oviedo for research on Roman era dams and weirs on the Tagus River.

     

  • David López López for an experimental and analytical study of the bearing capacity of the timbrel vault, a traditional construction technique.

The exhibition “Ars Mechanicae, Medieval engineering in Spain” will be open from 7 March through 23 June at Logroño’s Science Museum.

  • Seventh edition of Open Mill Day in Portugal. The Portuguese Mill Network, Etnoidea and TIMS (The International Molinology Society) have jointly announced that 6 April next will be Open Mill Day in Portugal, preceding the country’s National Mill Day on the 7th.

On 14 February last, Carlos Blázquez, managing director of Acualis, delivered a conference entitled “Historia del frío” (history of cooling) in a centrally located auditorium in Zaragoza. The lecture formed part of the “Encounters with Science” series.

 

Carlos Blázquez is a member of the Fundación Juanelo Turriano Advisory Board.

Guadalupe Pizarro Berengena’s PhD. dissertation entitled El abastecimiento de agua a Córdoba. Arqueología e Historia (Supplying Cordoba with water. Archaeology and History) is now available on the University of Córdoba website.

 

Guadalupe Pizarro was awarded an honourable mention in the seventh edition of the García-Diego awards for her paper “Caños, arcas y atarjeas. El reto del agua en la Córdoba moderna” (pipes, collection boxes and culverts; waterworks in modern Cordoba).
