I International Congress on Public Works Heritage and Civil Engineering

Fundación Juanelo Turriano is one of the collaborating institutions participating in the I International Congress on Public Works Heritage and Civil Engineering organized by the Chartered Association of Civil Engineers and its Castile-La Mancha chapter.

The congress has been held in Cuenca, Toledo and Madrid from 26 to 29 September 2023.

Exhibitions open

The exhibitions Artifex. Ingeniería romana en España [Artifex. Roman engineering in Spain] and Felipe II. Los ingenios y las máquinas [Phillip II. Devices and machines] will remain open to the public at large free of charge until 30 November.  Both shows were organized jointly by Fundación Juanelo Turriano and the Centre for Historic Studies on Public Works and Urban Planning (CEHOPU-CEDEX).

These exhibitions were opened in Cuenca and Toledo as part of the I International Congress on Public Works Heritage and Civil Engineering organized by the Castile-La Mancha chapter of the Chartered Association of Civil Engineers.

Dissemination, tourism, education and demographic challenge award

Awards were given out for the best papers on 28 September last, at the close of the I International Congress on Public Works Heritage and Civil Engineering in Toledo.

The Fundación sponsored the award for the best paper in the topic area of Dissemination, tourism, education and demographic challenge, which was won by Evelio Teijón López-Zuazo.

The deadline for submitting papers for the Pedro Navascués Prize for PhD theses ended on 28 September.

Catalogue of Public Works Heritage Undertakings

As part of the I International Congress on Public Works Heritage and Civil Engineering, the Chartered Association of Civil Engineers has presented its Catalogue of Public Works Heritage Undertakings, a document that identifies 111 constructions throughout Spain that require partial or total refurbishment or signage and dissemination work.

Exhibition. Can a machine think?
Alan Turing asked the question (but did not answer it) in Mind magazine in 1950, but Leonardo Torres Quevedo had already worked out his reply between 1910 and 1920. The exhibition ¿Puede pensar una máquina? [Can a machine think?] is open to visitors at the Complutense University of Madrid School of Education library until 15 December.
