García-Diego International Prize. 12th edition. Open for candidacies
The Fundación Juanelo Turriano would like to issue a reminder that papers can be submitted for the García-Diego International Prize until 18th January 2024. The prize, worth 9 000 euros, is awarded for research and dissemination work concerning any branch of the history of technology.

The prize is open to any individual or group submitting an original, unpublished paper in Spanish

Book review in Revista de Obras Públicas. José Eugenio Ribera

Issue 3644 of the Revista de Obras Públicas carried Patricia Hernández Lamas’ review of Innovación y modernidad. José Eugenio Ribera, ingeniero de caminos (1864-1936) [Innovation and modernity. José Eugenio Ribera, Civil Engineer (1864-1936)], by Inmaculada Aguilar.

The book was recently published by the Fundacíon Juanelo Turriano as part of the Juanelo Turriano Collection on the History of Engineering.

Inmaculada Aguilar is a Fundación Juanelo Turriano trustee.

Dissemination, tourism, education and demographic challenge award

The I International Congress on Public Works Heritage and Civil Engineering closed on 28 September with a ceremony at which awards were given out for the best papers in the various topic areas.

Fundación Juanelo Turriano sponsored the award for the area of Dissemination, tourism, education and demographic challenge, which was won by Evelio Teijón López-Zuazo, civil engineer and lecturer at the University of Salamanca, for his paper Fondeando en Fernando Gallego Herrera: del olvido al patrimonio universal (A deep dive into Fernando Gallego Herrera: from obscurity to world heritage).

A tribute to José Calavera Ruiz
A tribute to José Calavera Ruiz

A tribute to José Calavera Ruiz, who died on 25 August last, will be held on 14 November at 6:30 PM in the auditorium of the Chartered Institute of Civil Engineers of Madrid.

The ceremony, which will also be available on line, will conclude with a tour of an exhibition of this great engineer’s books and other documents.

José Calavera was a Fundación Juanelo Turriano trustee.

Thirteenth International Molinology Congress
Thirteenth International Molinology Congress

The Thirteenth International Molinology Congress, organised by the Seville Planning Office and the Asociación para la Conservación y el Estudio de los Molinos (ACEM, Association for the Conservation and Study of Mills), will be held at the Royal Artillery Factory in Seville on 24 to 26 November.

Fundación Juanelo Turriano is one of the collaborating institutions.

Ricardo Velázquez Bosco. One hundredth anniversary
Ricardo Velázquez Bosco. One hundredth anniversary

This year marks one hundred years since the death of Ricardo Velázquez Bosco (1843-1923), architect, fellow of the San Fernando Royal Fine Arts Academy (1888) and director of the School of Architecture (1910).

The City of Madrid’s Directorate General of Cultural Heritage has organised a cultural programme with tours, exhibits and a series of lectures, among other activities.

The lecture series, which ends on 30 November, is directed by Javier Mosteiro. The featured lecturers include Miguel Sobrino and Inmaculada Aguilar, members of the Advisory Commission and trustees of Fundación Juanelo Turriano.

Third Juanelo Turriano Prize
Third Juanelo Turriano Prize
On 7 October last, at the institutional ceremony held during the annual engineering celebration organised by the Chartered Institute of Industrial Engineers (COGITI) of Toledo, the third Juanelo Turriano Prize was awarded to the City of Illescas. Mayor José Manuel Tofiño Pérez accepted the prize.
