2023 Turriano ICOHTEC Prize
The Turriano ICOHTEC prize giving ceremony took place on 16 November.

The following papers received awards:

Cycling Pathways. The Politics and Governance of Dutch Cycling Infrastructure, 1920-2020, by Henk-Jan Dekker.

Electrifying Mexico. Technology and the Transformation of a Modern City, by Diana Montaño.

A special mention was given to the paper Planetarien. Wunder der Technik – Techniken des Wunderns, by Helen Ahner.

Forum on World-class Spanish Military Heritage
Forum on World-class Spanish Military Heritage

The first Forum on World-class Spanish Military Heritage took place from 16 to 17 November at Cartagena Technical University. The event, scheduled to mark World Heritage Day, was organised by the Foundation of Military Sciences and Arts (FUNDCAMI), the Academy of Military Sciences and Arts (ACAMI) and the ADIPROPE Foundation for the Dissemination and Promotion of Spain’s World Heritage.

The round table Heritage: Memory, Progress and Management was held on the second day, moderated by José Antonio González Carrión, a Fundación Juanelo Turriano trustee.

The cities of Deva and Motrico, in Guipúzcoa, celebrate their Europa Nostra Award
The cities of Deva and Motrico, in Guipúzcoa, celebrate their Europa Nostra Award

The European Commission and Europa Nostra have given the Europa Nostra award, one of the European Union’s most prestigious cultural heritage prizes, to the project to refurbish the Deva bridge.

On 27 October a commemorative plaque was installed and the award ceremony was held with the presence of project’s two-man design team, Javier León and Iñaki Jaime.

Javier León is a member of the Foundation’s Advisory Committee.

Leaders of the Great Hydroelectric Adventure in the Pyrenees. Symposium

The Pirineus.watt association held a symposium dedicated to Eduardo Torroja, Leaders of the Great Hydroelectric Adventure in the Pyrenees, in Pont de Suert and Xerallo from 20 to 21 October.

Victoriano Muñoz Cava, honorary president of Fundación Juanelo Turriano, and Pepa Cassinello, Fundación Eduardo Torroja director and member of the Foundation’s Advisory Committee, participated in the symposium.

Hispanismo, cénit del humanismo [Hispanism, zenith of humanism]. Book presentation

The book Hispanismo: Cénit del Humanismo. Historia verdadera del legado tecnológico en el Nuevo Mundo [Hispanism: Zenith of Humanism. True story of technological heritage in the New World] will be presented on 29 and 30 November at 5:00 PM in a simultaneous joint session of the Royal Academy of Engineering of Spain and the Academy of Engineering of Mexico. The book’s coauthors, Avelino Cortizo, Francisco García-Blanch and Salvador Landeros, will be among the participants.

ICOHTEC Congress. Now receiving papers

Papers for the 51st ICOHTEC Congress will be accepted until 18 December.
The congress, organised in conjunction with the Society for the History of Technology (SHOT), will explore the topic Reparando/Repair in the History of Technology and will take place from 9 to 14 July 2024 in Viña del Mar, Chile.
