Pedro Navascués Prize for PhD theses. Award

The judges of the Pedro Navascués Prize for PhD Theses met on 27 November 2023. It was decided to give the 6000-euro prize to:

Evolución del diseño de firmes de carreteras y nuevos materiales en la era de la economía circular. Un cambio de paradigma (Evolution of road surface design and new materials in the age of the circular economy. A paradigm shift).
Submitted by José Manuel Sanz García.

The 1000-euro second prize went to:

El culto a las aguas y sus manifestaciones materiales: ninfeos, caldas y balnea del noroeste de la Península Ibérica. De los precedentes antiguos a la alta Edad Media (Water worship and its material manifestations: nymphaea, hot springs and balneae of the northwestern Iberian Peninsula. From ancient forerunners to the early Middle Ages).

García-Diego International Prize. 12th edition. Accepting submissions

The deadline for submitting papers for the 9000-euro García-Diego International Prize for research work concerning any branch of the history of technology ends on 18 January 2024.

The prize is open to any individual or group submitting an original, unpublished paper in Spanish.

Asociación para la Conservación y Estudio de los Molinos. General assembly meeting

The Asociación para la Conservación y Estudio de los Molinos (ACEM, Association for the Conservation and Study of Mills) held a meeting of its general assembly on 26 November in Seville, after the closing of the Thirteenth International Molinology Congress.

Pedro Fernández was re-elected president of the association, and the city of León was chosen to host the Fourteenth International Molinology Congress in 2025.

In 2024 a symposium will be held in Sigüenza.

The Association of Civil Engineers’ free georeferenced application GOING is now available. GOING was developed by Fundación Miguel Aguiló in cooperation with all chapters of the Chartered Association of Civil Engineers.

The application, which includes a selection of over 200 historical and current constructions with images and data on how they were designed and built, can be downloaded using the following links:

The exhibition on the construction of the first railway of either Spain or Latin America, the line from Havana to Güines, Cuba, is open to visitors from 29 November to 12 December in the Patio Rosa space of the Palace of Fernán Núñez (C/Santa Isabel 44, Madrid).

The show will be on display at the Railway Museum in Madrid from 14 December to 15 January.
