New publication Digital collection Fundación Juanelo Turriano has released the online version of a new book in its Juanelo Turriano Collection on the History of Engineering, El Picadero de Moscú, obra de Agustín de Betancourt [Moscow’s riding school, designed by Agustín de Betancourt], by Professor Olga Egorova. In 1817 distinguished Spanish engineer Agustín de Betancourt, who had been in the employ of Czar Alexander I since 1808, designed a building in Moscow intended for riding exercises. Located opposite the Kremlin, it stood out especially for its size and the structure of its roof. Professor Egorova’s book narrates the origin and use of the riding school or manezh from initial construction through its recent restoration after a fire in 2004 and reproduces Betancourt’s original specifications and drawings.
