El hilo de Betancourt (Betancourt’s thread), a play

El hilo de Betancourt will be staged at the School of Civil Engineering, Madrid, on Saturday 4 October. A theatrical recreation of the life of Agustín de Betancourt y Molina (1758-1824), distinguished Enlightenment engineer, the play affords an entertaining overview of this exceptional nomad, a practising inventor, designer, engineer and artist who earned renown in a hectic Europe, rocked by Enlightenment ideas, the Industrial Revolution, the French Revolution and Enlightened Despotism. Betancourt had to ultimately seek exile (1808) in Czar Alexander I’s Russia.
