Roller press in the Royal Mint Museum at Segovia now open to the public
On 21 October 2014, Victoriano Muñoz Cava, president of Fundación Juanelo Turriano and Clara Luquero, Mayor of Segovia, unveiled the new roller press at the city’s Royal Mint Museum. This device was instrumental to minting the coins produced at the facility founded by King Philip II in the sixteenth century.

Like the waterwheels that drive the drop hammer and bellows in the smith’s shop, this roller press was built thanks to an agreement between Fundación Juanelo Turriano and the city of Segovia. It was designed by industrial master craftsman Jorge Soler and engineer José María Izaga based on contemporary documents and constructed by joiner Miguel Ángel Moreno.
Enlightenment waterworks exhibition extended
The exhibition Obras hidráulicas de la Ilustración (Enlightenment waterworks), organised jointly by Fundación Juanelo Turriano and the Centre for Public Works Studies and Experimentation/Centre for Historic Studies on Public Works and Urban Planning (Spanish initials, CEDEX/CEHOPU) has been extended through Sunday 2 November.

The exhibition covers some of the most significant waterworks undertaken during the Spanish Enlightenment, when the country embarked on a programme of unprecedented scope and ambition to modernise its hydraulic facilities.
