Ingenieros Arquitectos: new on-line publication

The fourth book in the series Lecciones Juanelo Turriano de Historia de la Ingeniería [Juanelo Turriano Lectures on the history of engineering], containing the lectures delivered on the occasion of the course entitled Ingenieros Arquitectos [Architect engineers], is now available from the Fundación Juanelo Turriano’s Digital Library. The course, held in 2014 at the Madrid School of Architecturewas organised by the Fundación Juanelo Turriano.

Symposium on civil engineering in Extremadura and historical hydraulic works in Guadalupe

A symposium on civil engineering in Extremadura and historical hydraulic works in Guadalupe was held on 11 July last under the sponsorship of the Municipality of Guadalupe and the Chartered Institute of Associate Civil Engineers of Extremadura.

David Fernández-Ordóñez, Fundación Juanelo Turriano trustee, delivered a lecture on the town’s splendid fourteenth-century water supply system (the “Arca del Agua”, still in operation) and “Estanque” Dam.

The lecture was followed by a visit to the “Arca del Agua” and the official opening of an exhibition on civil engineering at “Puebla y Villa de Guadalupe” Community Centre. The ceremony was presided by Rafael Pagés Rodriguez, Dean of the Chartered Institute of Associate Civil Engineers of Extremadura, and Felipe Sánchez, Mayor of Guadalupe.
PhD. thesis: The industrial heritage and its conversion into museums; factories at San Juan de Alcaraz

Marta Vera Prieto, Fundación Juanelo Turriano PhD. scholarship grantee, successfully defended her thesis entitled Patrimonio Industrial y Musealización: Fábricas de San Juan de Alcaraz (Riópar, Albacete) [The industrial heritage and its conversion into museums; factories at San Juan de Alcaraz] at the University of Castilla La Mancha on 7 July last.

Her dissertation was awarded the highest distinction by the examiners: José Antonio Sánchez Martínez (University of Castilla La Mancha), Inmaculada Aguilar Civera (University of Valencia) and Juan José Castillo Alonso (Complutense University of Madrid).
