José Calavera Ruiz. Honorary doctorate
On 27 January, an honorary doctorate was conferred on José Calavera Ruiz by the University of Cantabria for his academic, human and professional achievements in construction quality control and his furtherance of the use of precasting in building. José Calavera is a Fundación Juanelo Turriano trustee.

David Fernández-Ordóñez, new Secretary General of the International Federation for Structural Concrete

The International Federation for Structural Concrete has announced the appointment of David Fernández-Ordóñez as its new Secretary General. Mr Fernández-Ordóñez has been a member of the Spanish delegation to the IFSC since 1999 and presently chairs the organisation’s Prefabrication Commission.

The international dimension of his work, his dedication to associations such as the Asociación Científico-Técnica del Hormigón Estructural [ACHE, Scientific-Technical Association for Structural Concrete] and Fundación Juanelo Turriano, of which he is trustee, as well as his professional and academic experience, were determinants in his appointment.

The exhibition entitled Más allá del arco. Puentes de la modernidad [Beyond the arch: modernist bridges] will open to the public on 9 February. The showing, organised by CEDEX (Centre for Public Works Studies and Experimentation) and CEHOPU (Centre for Historic Studies on Public Works and Urban Planning), will be on display in the ‘Arquerías’ Hall, Ministry of Public Works. The exhibition includes a selection of works on loan from the Fundación Juanelo Turriano library.
Patrimonio Industrial Hidráulico. Paisaje  arquitectura y construcción en las presas y centrales hidroeléctricas españolas del siglo XX. PhD. thesis
The PhD. thesis entitled Patrimonio Industrial Hidráulico. Paisaje Arquitectura y Construcción en las presas y centrales hidroeléctricas españolas del siglo XX [Industrial Hydraulic Heritage: landscape and architecture in dam and hydroelectric power plant construction in twentieth-century Spain] will be defended on 4 February at the Madrid School of Architecture (ETSAM). The author, Javier Molina Sánchez, was awarded the 2015-2016 edition of the Fundación Juanelo Turriano PhD. grant.
