Tribute to José Echegaray Eizaguirre
A monographic issue of the journal Panacea, humanidades, ciencia y sanidad, with articles on the centenary of the death of José Echegaray Eizaguirre, was presented on 25 April at the Ateneo in Madrid. Fernando Sáenz Ridruejo and José Manuel Sánchez Ron, Fundación Juanelo Turriano trustees, were among the speakers.

Eighth edition of the Young Researchers’ Award

The Royal Academy of Engineering has announced the eighth edition of the Agustín de Betancourt and Juan López de Peñalver prizes. Technology transfer is one of the aspects most highly valued in these prizes, intended for researchers or professionals who have made significant original contributions to any area of engineering.

Candidates must have been under 40 years of age on 1 January 2017 and have conducted a significant part of their work in Spain.

De Aquaeductu urbis Romae. Registration and papers

June 29 next is the deadline for registering and submitting papers for the Frontinus-Society on the History of Water Management and Hydraulic Engineering in the Mediterranean Region’s international conference De Aquaeductu urbis Romae, Sectus Iulius Frontinus and the Water of Rome, to be held at Italy’s capital city on 10-18 November 2018.

History of bridges over the Bay of Cadiz. Lecture

On 20 April Javier Manterola delivered a lecture on the history of bridges over the Bay of Cadiz at the Chartered Institute of Civil Engineers around the exhibition entitled Eduardo Torroja. Proposals for the Bay of Cadiz, 1927-1928.

The showing will be open to the public through 14 June at the Nuevos Ministerios Exhibition Hall.

The book entitled Cartagena, Plaza Fuerte, 1503-1996 [Cartagena, stronghold: 1503-1996] was presented on 6 April at the Cartagena’s Museum of Military History. It was published jointly by the Catholic University of Murcia (UCAM) and the Ministry of Defence through its Institute of Military History and Culture.
