Juanelo Turriano, Renaissance genius. Opening ceremony

The exhibition entitled Juanelo Turriano, Renaissance genius opened to the public on 8 February at Madrid’s National Library.

The showing includes bibliographic treasures from the Library’s collection, works of art, documentary films on a number of Cremonese institutions, a bust of Juanelo Turriano lent by Toledo’s Santa Cruz Museum and graphic materials furnished by Fundación Juanelo Turriano.

The exhibition will be open to the general public cost-free through 6 May.

The Gardens of Al-Andalus. Exhibition

The Gardens of Al-Andalus, an exhibition on display at Spain’s International Cooperation for Development Agency (AECID) headquarters in Madrid, opened to the public on 8 February.

The showing features a scale model of an Islamic waterwheel on loan from Fundación Juanelo Turriano.

Organised by Funci (Islamic Culture Foundation), it will run through 30 April.
It is open to the general public, cost-free.

Enrique Gallego Lázaro. Fellow of the San Quirce Royal Academy of History and Art

Enrique Gallego, specialist second lieutenant and tutorial professor at the National Distance University’s Associated Institution, Segovia, accepted his designation as San Quirce Royal Academy of History and Art fellow in a ceremony held on 2 February.

The response to his acceptance address, in which he dissertated on the city, region and soil of Segovia in modern and contemporary times, was delivered by San Quirce fellow Juan Luis García Hourcade, member of our foundation’s Advisory Commission.

A panel on the recovery of modernist engineering, twentieth century civil engineering’s legacy, waterworks and ports will be held on 20 February at the Chartered Institute of Civil Engineers, Madrid.

The panel will be moderated by Juan A. Santamera and Arcadio Gil, with Fernando Sáenz Ridruejo, Fundación Juanelo Turriano trustee, as one of the speakers.

The III Congreso Internacional del Agua [3rd International Congress on Water] will be held at the Campus del Agua (Orense Campus, University of Vigo) on 25 to 27 October 2018. The theme of this third edition, which will focus on heritage issues, is Agua, sociedad y territorio [Water, society and territory].

The deadline for receiving abstracts is 31 March 2018.

Sergio Vidal Álvarez will deliver a lecture entitled De Roma al Islam: Qasr al-Hallabat y los "castillos del desierto" (Jordania)’ [From Rome to Islam, Qasr al-Hallabat and the "castles in the desert" (Jordan)] on 13 February at 7:00 PM at the National Archaeological Museum, Madrid.

The conference will be available on the museum’s ‘Youtube' channel for several weeks after the event.
