Fundación Juanelo Turriano Library

Fundación Juanelo Turriano has launched a new library platform that offers conventional library services, such as reference and lending, online.

The ultimate objective is to digitise the entire collection.

Waterworks and urban layout. Adjournment

The university outreach course entitled Waterworks and urban layout was adjourned on 11 November.

Organised by Spain’s National Distance University and Fundación Juanelo Turriano and headed by Alicia Cámara Muñoz and Bernardo Revuelta Pol, it was attended by 24 participants.

Course adjournment included a guided tour of the Segovia aqueduct.

Fundación Juanelo Turriano will publish digital versions of the lessons.

Grants for PhD. studies. 2018-2019
The panel of judges appointed by the Fundación Juanelo Turriano Trust to determine the winners of the foundation’s PhD. grants met on 30 October 2018.

After reviewing the 11 applications received, the panel deemed that none conformed to point 2 of the rules: ‘the grants are awarded to write a PhD. thesis dealing with the history of science or technology’. They consequently decided to award no grants in the 2018 funding round.

Calls for candidates are announced on this website in due time.
Turriano ICOHTEC Prize 2019. Call for submissions

Papers may now be submitted for the Turriano ICOHTEC Prize 2019.

The awardee will receive the 2500 euro prize plus 500 euros for travel expenses and read the paper at the forthcoming ICOHTEC symposium to be held at Katowice, Poland, from 22 to 27 July 2019.

The deadline for receiving submissions is 1 February 2019.

The International Conference on Construction Research Eduardo Torroja AEC 2018 will be held in Madrid on 21 to 23 November under the slogan Architecture, Engineering and Concrete, Where do we come from? Where are we going?

Jointly organised by Fundación Eduardo Torroja and the Eduardo Torroja Institute for Construction Science, a National Research Council body, with the support of institutions such as the International Federation for Structural Concrete (FIB), the Asociación Española de Ingeniería Estructural (ACHE) and the Technical University of Madrid, among others, it will feature a visit to La Zarzuela Racecourse and the Eduardo Torroja Museum prior to adjournment.

The Chartered Institute of Architects of Barcelona’s Agrupación de Arquitectos para la Defensa y la Intervención en el Patrimonio Arquitectónico (AADIPA) will hold its 41st course on 13 to 16 December next, entitled Waterways: restoration and use of the inland water heritage.

75th anniversary of the Martín Gil Viaduct
75th anniversary of the Martín Gil Viaduct

The former headquarters for the Central Government’s Representative to the Province of Zamora is hosting an exhibition to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the official opening of the Martín Gil Viaduct.

Renowned engineers Francisco Martín Gil, author of the original design (deceased in 1933, before the works were completed), and Eduardo Torroja Miret participated in the construction of this bridge, built for the railway connecting Zamora and A Corunna.

The showing has been extended through 2 December.
