Sueño e Ingenio. Libros de ingeniería civil: del Renacimiento a las Luces [Dreams and ingenuity, civil engineering books from the Renaissance to the Enlightenment]. Opening ceremony

The exhibition Sueño e Ingenio. Libros de ingeniería civil: del Renacimiento a las Luces [Dreams and ingenuity, civil engineering books from the Renaissance to the Enlightenment], now showing at the National Library, was officially opened to the public on 31 January.

National Library Director Ana Santos Aramburo, Fundación Juanelo Turriano President Victoriano Muñoz Cava and exhibition curator Daniel Crespo Delgado participated in the ceremony.

The exhibition will be open to visitors, cost-free, through 26 April.

Science in the classroom. PhD. thesis
Luis Moreno Martínez, Fundación Juanelo Turriano PhD. grant awardee in its 2017-2018 edition, earned the highest distinction (‘summa cum laude’) for his thesis defended on 31 January at the University of Valencia’s López Piñeiro Interuniversity Institute.

Entitled Ciencia en las aulas: prácticas pedagógicas, cultura material e historia de la ciencia en la obra de Modesto Bargalló en España (1894-1939) [Science in the classroom: teaching technique, material culture and history of science in the oeuvre of Modesto Bargalló in Spain (1894-1939)], the thesis was supervised by José Ramón Bertomeu Sánchez and Josep Simón Castel.

Manuel Lombardero Soto. A tribute

On 19 December last, Madrid’s Chartered Institute of Civil Engineers paid tribute to engineer Manuel Lombardero  Soto on the occasion of his 100th anniversary in a touching ceremony at which, among others, he was awarded the Fundación Juanelo Turriano medal.

Manuel Lombardero is a member of the Fundación’s Advisory Commission.

The programme produced by the National Distance University (UNED) for Spanish public television (2 TVE) aired a chapter on 31 January entitled ‘Ingenieros en el Mediterráneo de Felipe II’ [Engineers in Philip II’s Mediterranean], moderated by full professor at the UNED Alicia Cámara Muñoz and Director of the Simancas General Archives Julia Rodríguez de Diego.
