Sueño e Ingenio. Libros de ingeniería civil [Dreams and ingenuity, civil engineering books]. Closing

The exhibition Sueño e ingenio. Libros de ingeniería civil: del Renacimiento a las Luces [Dreams and ingenuity, civil engineering books from the Renaissance to the Enlightenment] closed on 25 October.

The showing, curated by Daniel Crespo Delgado, received over 10 000 visitors while on display at Spain’s National Library.

Fundación Juanelo Turriano wishes to thank all the institutions whose generous loans of items from their collections contributed to the success of this unprecedented exhibition of civil engineering training in Spain:

Crown Heritage, San Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts, National Etchings Institute, Chartered Institution of Architects of Madrid, Army Museum, Armed Forces Cultural Centre, Naval Museum Archives, Prado Museum, Hoyo de Manzanares Academy of Army Engineers, Ministry of Public Works and Palau Antiguitats.

Dolores Romero Muñoz has been awarded the National Distance University’s prize for outstanding achievement (2018/2019 edition) for her  PhD. thesis Carlos de Grünenberg.Un ingeniero alemán al servicio de Felipe IV y Carlos II [Carlos de Grünenberg, German engineer in the service of Philip IV and Charles II of Spain].

Dr Romero authored the book La navegación del Río Manzanares: el proyecto Gunenbergh [Navigating the River Manzanares: the Grunenbergh project], published by Fundación Juanelo Turriano in 2015. Her thesis was written under the supervision of Alicia Camara, Professor of Art History

Candidacies for the Caminos Madrid Prize, organised by the Madrid Chapter of the Chartered Association of Civil Engineers’ governing body, can be submitted through the 30 November deadline under any of the following categories:

Best project
Best municipal works
Civil engineer practising abroad
Research and/or innovation
Excellence in engineering projects or works authored by an SME
Social responsibility, solidarity and sustainability
Excellence in public service
Journalistic excellence
Young civil engineer
Outstanding civil engineer

History’s footprints. Exhibition
History’s footprints. Exhibition

The exhibition History’s footprints is open to the public at the Sorian Provincial Council’s museum, Villa Romana La Dehesa.

This showing is an introduction to the pictorial art practised by a series of craftsmen who depicted their lifestyles, gods and dreams on small stone tesserae. The mosaics on display were inspired by Roman models both in Spain and abroad.
