Turriano-ICOHTEC Prize

The Turriano-ICOHTEC Prize for young historians organised by ICOHTEC and sponsored by Fundación Juanelo Turriano was awarded to Hyeok Hweon Kang for his study entitled Crafting Knowledge: Artisan, Officer, and the Culture of Making in Chosŏn Korea, 1392–1910.

Two honourable mentions were also awarded, to Philippe Bruyèrre for his study La puissance du vent and Martin Meiske for his paper Die Geburt des Geoengineerings.

Monographic issue 3628 of the journal Revista de Obras Públicas dedicated to design in public works carries an article by Daniel Crespo Delgado titled Utilitas, firmitas y venustas en la historia de la ingeniería civil [Utilitas, firmitas y venustas in the history of civil engineering].

Daniel Crespo is professor at the Complutense University of Madrid and Fundación Juanelo Turriano researcher.

On 2 September last, the Regional Government of Madrid listed El Gasco Dam and Guadarrama Canal as a cultural heritage asset.

La presa de El Gasco: Paisaje de un sueño ilustrado [El Gasco Dam: landscape in an enlightened dream], a book by historian J.M. Calvo Martínez and photographer and painter Fabián Laínez recently published by Valbanera Ediciones, highlights the importance of that impressive work of civil engineering.

The deadline for submitting communications to the Twelfth International Congress on Molinology to be held at Alcalá de Henares, Madrid, on 11 to 13 November 2021 has been extended to 25 September.

Organised by the University of Alcalá de Henares’s School of Architecture and ACEM, Asociación para el Estudio de los Molinos [association for the study of mills], this twelfth edition bears the slogan, Yesterday’s mills, today’s heritage.
