Juanelo Turriano (Giannello Torresani): relojero, ingeniero, astrónomo: fuentes y documentos biográficos [Clockmaker, engineer, astronomer: sources and biographic documents]

Our Digital Library is now offering a recent addition to the Juanelo Turriano Collection on the History of Engineering, a book by Roberta Ramella and Marino Viganó with the aforementioned title.

Only a short number of bibliographic writings were published on Juanelo prior to García-Diego’s earliest studies dating from the nineteen seventies. In the interim, however, historiographic research has generated several of undeniable scientific value.

One is the compilation and transcription of documents related to the engineer’s life on record in Spain authored by Luis Cervera Vera and published by the Foundation in 1996. That book served as precursor to the exhaustive study presented here. In the latter, researchers Roberta Ramella and Marino Viganò have reviewed not only relevant documents found in Italian records, but also allusions to Juanelo in historic manuscripts and printed materials. The outcome is a reference book of utmost value for anyone interested in the life and oeuvre of this distinguished Italian engineer.
