Artifex. Ingeniería Romana en España [Artifex. Roman Engineering in Spain]. Travelling exhibition

The travelling exhibition Artifex. Ingeniería Romana en España [Artifex. Roman Engineering in Spain] opened in the old Architecture building at the Technical University of Cartagena on 29 May. The exhibition’s scale models and panels take visitors on a tour through the rich scientific and technical life of Roman Spain.

The show is organised by Fundación Juanelo Turriano, the Centre for Public Works Studies and Experimentation (CEDEX) – Centre for Historic Studies on Public Works and Urban Planning (CEHOPU), the Technical University of Cartagena’s School of Civil Engineering, the Murcia Chapter of the Chartered Association of Civil Engineers and the Taibilla Canals Authority.

The exhibition is open to visitors cost free until October.

 
The archaeologist engineer (sixteenth to nineteenth centuries). University extension course

The Spanish National Distance University (UNED) has organised a course entitled El ingeniero arqueólogo (The archaeologist engineer). The course is sponsored by Fundación Juanelo Turriano as collaborating institution and is scheduled to be held at UNED’s associated facility in Segovia on 24 to 26 October.

This activity is intended for historians, engineers, art and science historians, architects, geographers, tour guides and anyone interested in the subject. It will include a tour of the Royal Mint in Segovia.

Directed by Alicia Cámara (UNED) and associate directors Emilie d’Orgeix (École Pratique des Hautes Études-Université PSL), Bernardo Revuelta Pol (Fundación Juanelo Turriano) and Isabelle Warmoes (Musée de Plans-reliefs, Paris), the course is worth 1 ECTS.

José Javier Carreño Soler, beneficiary of the 2019-2020 edition of the Fundación Juanelo Turriano doctoral grant, earned Summa Cum Laude honours for his PhD. thesis entitled Estudio arqueo-antropológico de las serrerías marmóreas en el Alto Almanzora  (Almería).[Archaeo-anthropological Study of the Marble Sawmills in the High Almanzora River Valley, Almería]

Supervised by José María Martín Civantos, the thesis was defended at the University of Granada on 7 May.
Fourteenth International Molinology Conference

The deadline for submitting abstracts or paper proposals for the Fourteenth International Molinology Conference is extended until 5 June. The conference, whose topic is Age-old landscapes, repertory of wisdom, will be held from 16 to 19 October in León.

Fundación Juanelo Turriano is one of the collaborating institutions.
