Fourteenth International Molinology Conference

The presentation Del molino de sangre al ingenio hidráulico en la Real Fábrica de Cristales: un recorrido por la energía hidráulica aplicada a la manufactura del vidrio [From the animal-driven mill to the hydraulic artifice at the Royal Glass Factory: A journey through hydraulic energy applied to glass manufacturing] was delivered at the Fourteenth International Molinology Conference on 18 October last.

In charge of the paper were Glass Technology Museum Director Paloma Pastor, Fundación Juanelo Turriano Director Bernardo Revuelta and Alberto Luque, director of Producciones Bosco, which made Luz, tierra, fuego y agua [Light, earth, fire and water], a video showing how glass was made in the eighteenth century at the Royal Glass Factory of La Granja de San Ildefonso.

The archaeologist engineer (sixteenth to nineteenth centuries). University extension course

The Spanish National Distance University (UNED) has organised a course entitled El ingeniero arqueólogo [The archaeologist engineer]. The course is sponsored by Fundación Juanelo Turriano as collaborating institution and is scheduled to be held at UNED’s associated facility in Segovia on 24 to 26 October.

This activity is intended for historians, engineers, art and science historians, architects, geographers, tour guides and anyone interested in the subject. It will include a tour of the Royal Mint in Segovia.

Third Pedro Navascués Prize for PhD theses

Submissions are being accepted for the third Pedro Navascués Prize for excellence in engineering history research.

The 6,000-euro prize recognises PhD theses that contribute fresh insights into the development of engineering. All branches and eras of engineering history are eligible.

Submission deadline: 18 December 2025

Fifth Juanelo Turriano Prize

On 4 October last, at the institutional ceremony held during the annual engineering celebration organised by the Chartered Institute of Industrial Engineers (COGITI) of Toledo, the fifth Juanelo Turriano Prize was awarded to UFD Redes Electricidad España, represented by its director, Mónica Puente Ferreras.

Fundación Juanelo Turriano contributed to the ceremony with a selection of books about Toledo to be awarded to the prizewinning institution.

Hydraulic heritage and landscape on the shores of the Tagus. A look at Toledo through its river.

A lecture entitled Hydraulic heritage and landscape on the shores of the Tagus. A look at Toledo through its river will be delivered on Wednesday, 22 October, at 7:00 PM at the Museo de los Concilios y la Cultura Visigoda (Iglesia de San Román, Toledo).

The project has the support of the Council of Communities of Castile-La Mancha, the Biocultural Archaeology Laboratory (MEMOLab, University of Granada), Fundación de Cultura Islámica and Fundación Juanelo Turriano.

The event is open to the public cost-free subject only to room capacity.

Second International Congress on Public Works Heritage and Civil Engineering
Second International Congress on Public Works Heritage and Civil Engineering

The deadline for submitting abstracts on Building landscape, recovering heritage and rekindling tourism, the topic of the Second International Congress on Public Works Heritage and Civil Engineering, has been extended to 31 October.

This international gathering is organised by the Chartered Association of Civil Engineers and its Valencian chapter. It is scheduled to be held in Castellón, Valencia, and Alicante from 7 to 10 April 2026.

Internacional Menéndez Pelayo International Award

José Manuel Sánchez Ron has been awarded the Menéndez Pelayo International Award, a distinction for leading writers and scientists. The judges particularly stressed his work as a scholar and communicator of science and its history.

José Manuel Sánchez Ron has been a trustee of the Fundación Juanelo Turriano.
