Pedro Navascués Prize for PhD theses. Award

The jury of the Pedro Navascués Prize for PhD Theses has decided to give the 6000-euro prize to:

Relojes monumentales y sus campanas en Castilla y León: Patrimonio, Historia y Técnica para medida del tiempo. Submitted by Daniel Sanz Platero.

The 1000-euro second prize went to:

La evolución de la construcción naval militar debido a la escasez de material entre los reinados de Felipe V a Felipe VI. Los fenómenos de la importación y exportación naval. Submitted by Jaime Pérez Martínez.

The jury thanks all participants for their efforts.

Second Congress on Public Works and Civil Engineering Heritage

The second Congress on Public Works and Civil Engineering Heritage will take place from 7 to 10 April in Castellón, Valencia and Alicante. The gathering is organised by the Chartered Association of Civil Engineers together with the Association’s Valencian chapter.

The events of 10 April will include a tribute to Juanelo Turriano trustee Inmaculada Aguilar.

Sixth International Spanish-American Congress and Fourteenth National Congress on the History of Construction

The Sixth Spanish-American Congress and Fourteenth National Congress on the History of Construction, organised by the Sociedad Española de Historia de la Construcción (SedHC, Spanish Society of the History of Construction), will be held from 8 to 11 April in Cartagena.

Fundación Juanelo Turriano is one of the collaborating institutions.

Guided tour of Fundación Juanelo Turriano

On 24 March a group of people interested in the history of science and technology participated in a guided tour of Fundación Juanelo Turriano.

The activity was led by Complutense University of Madrid professor and Fundación Juanelo Turriano researcher Daniel Crespo, who introduced the visitors to the institution’s main projects, collections and lines of work.

Metal bridges. Guided tour

On 5 March last a group of trustees, consultants and members of Fundación Juanelo Turriano took a guided tour of the exhibition Puentes de metal [Metal bridges], on display in the anteroom of the academic offices of the Technical University of Madrid’s School of Civil Engineering.

The show invites the public at large to explore how metal bridges have evolved in just a little over a hundred years, based on items from the collection belonging to the School of Civil Engineering’s library. Admission is free. The show is open until 24 April.
