Fundación Juanelo Turriano Board of Trustees

The Fundación Juanelo Turriano’s Board of Trustees has appointed Pedro Navascués Palacio to preside the Board. He succeeds Victoriano Muñoz Cava, who was named Honorary President.

José María Ruigómez, full professor at Madrid Technical University’s School of Civil Engineering, was designated Vice-President.

Alicia Cámara Muñoz, full professor of Art History at the National Distance University, will be the Board’s new Secretary.

Pedro Navascués Palacio, President of Fundación Juanelo Turriano Board of Trustees

Further to a decision adopted at the 24 September Board meeting, Pedro Navascués Palacio has assumed the presidency of Fundación Juanelo Turriano’s Board of Trustees.

Trustee since 2008, Mr Navascués was full professor of Art History at the Madrid Technical University’s School of Architecture until his designation as emeritus professor in 2012.

Fellow of the San Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts, of the Institute for Madrilenian Studies and the Hispanic Society of America, he holds an honorary doctorate from the University of Coimbra and is Honorary Member of the Chartered Institution of Architects of Madrid.

He has authored over 200 books and articles on the history of architecture and curated a considerable number of exhibitions, including 'Ars Mechanicae. Medieval Engineering in Spain (2008) and ‘Historic mock-ups and scale models. Engineering and construction’ (2017), both organised by Fundación Juanelo Turriano.

Victoriano Muñoz Cava, Honorary President of Fundación Juanelo Turriano

At its 24 September meeting, the Foundation’s Board of Trustees designated Victoriano Muñoz Cava as its Honorary President.

Mr Muñoz, PhD. in industrial engineering, served as Acerinox CEO and President until his retirement in 2007.

He presided the Foundation’s Board of Trustees for the last 12 years. During his term he received the Medal for Naval Merit in acknowledgement of his contribution to the rehabilitation of the Peral submarine and its relocation at Cartagena’s Naval Museum.

Hilario Rodríguez de Gracia, fellow of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts and History of Toledo, has published a review of Jesús López Requena’s book El proyecto de navegación del Tajo de Carlos de Simón Pontero [Carlos de Simón Pontero’s project for navigation on the River Tagus) in the journal Agua y Territorio

The online version of the book, which forms part of the Juanelo Turriano Collection on the History of Engineering, can be accessed cost-free from the Foundation library’s website.

Pepa Cassinello will deliver a lecture at Madrid’s Ateneo at 19:30 on 14 October entitled Thin shells, the art. 110th anniversary of the birth of Félix Candela, architect in exile

Ms Cassinello, Director of Fundación Eduardo Torroja, sits on the Fundación Juanelo Turriano Advisory Commission.
