The exhibition "Ildefonso Sánchez del Río. Ingenuity as a legacy" opened on Thursday 5 July at the Pola de Siero Community Centre in the Spanish province of Asturias.

 

The exhibition was introduced previously in a round table held in the town's auditorium, moderated by Councilwoman María José Sánchez Alonso and with Professors Robert Brufau and Ana Fernández as well as local historian Fructuoso Díaz and Fundación Juanelo Turriano Manager Bernardo Revuelta Pol as panellists.

 

Pola de Siero Mayor Eduardo Martínez Llosa presided the opening ceremony, in which Vitoriano Muñoz Cava, President of the Fundación Juanelo Turriano, also participated.

 

The exhibition will run through 27 July.

 

 

39th ICOHTEC SYMPOSIUM

 

39th Icohtec symposium

 

 

ICOHTEC (International Committee for the History of Technology) will launch its 39th Symposium on Monday, 9 July.

 

The sessions, two of which are being organised by the Fundación Juanelo Turriano, will be held at the Barcelona School of Industrial Engineering (ETSEIB).

 

The Catalonian Museum of Science and Technology at Tarrasa will be the venue for the Thursday, 12 July sessions.

On 29 June last, the Royal Mint Museum and Aqueduct Interpretation Centre, located in the same building, were opened to the public.

 

After an introduction by Mayor Pedro Arahuetes, the lathe, trip hammer and bellows, driven by the hydraulic wheels built by the Fundación Juanelo Turriano, were set in motion for visitors.

Issue 13 (2012) of EDAD MEDIA. Revista de Historia carries an extensive review by Víctor Pérez Álvarez, of the book Ciencia y Técnica en la España Bajomedieval, for which author Ricardo Córdoba de la Llave was awarded the Third García-Diego Prize.

 

The journal EDAD MEDIA is published by the University of Valladolid's Department of Ancient and Medieval History.
