NAVY CROSS OF HONOUR AWARDED TO VICTORIANO MUÑOZ CAVA

 

 

 

Spanish Minister of Defence Pedro Morenés has awarded the Navy Cross of Honour to Fundación Juanelo Turriano President Victoriano Muñoz Cava, in recognition of his outstanding achievement in connection with the rehabilitation of the Peral submarine, launched in 1888, and its relocation in the Cartagena Navy Museum.

 

DISSERTATION ENTITLED ENTITLED EL LÉXICO DE LOS INGENIOS Y LAS MÁQUINAS EN EL RENACIMIENTO

 

 

 

Cristina Martín Herrero recently read her PhD. dissertation at the University of Salamanca. The research for this dissertation, entitled El léxico de los ingenios y máquinas del Renacimiento (a wordbook of Renaissance devices and machines), was funded by a Fundación Juanelo Turriano grant for doctoral theses on the history of science and engineering.

OPENING OF THE EXHIBITION “ARS MECHANICAE” AT TARRAGONA

 

 

 

 

The travelling exhibition entitled “Ars Mechanicae. Ingeniería medieval en España” ( Ars Mechanicae. Medieval engineering in Spain), curated by the Fundación Juanelo Turriano in conjunction with the Spanish Centre for Public Works Studies and Experimentation-Centre for Historic Studies on Public Works and Urban Planning, opened on 4 July at the Centre d’Estudis Maritims i de Activitats in Tarragona. It will be on display there through 15 September 2013.

SUMMER COURSE “WATER, RIVER, CITY”

 

 

 

The summer course entitled “Water, River, City”, organised by the Fundación Juanelo Turriano and the Madrid School of Architecture begins on next Monday, 15 July.

 

Registration is still open.

Entry will be free until all the places are filled.

This course carries the following credits:

2 for Madrid Technical University students under Plan 96

1 for students pursuing a 4-year degree.

DISSERTARION ENTITLES ESTUDIO DEL TELÉGRAFO DE AGUSTÍN DE BETANCOURT

 

 

Ricardo Villar Ribera defended his dissertation, Estudio del telégrafo de Agustín de Betancourt” (study of Agustín de Betancourt’s telegraph), at the Polytechnic University of Catalunya’s Department of Graphic Engineering. This dissertation was co-supervised by Francisco Fernández Abad and Ignacio González Tascón, former Fundación Juanelo Turriano manager and trustee.

FRENTES MARÍTIMOS EN CIUDADES ATLÁNTICAS

 

 

On 8 July last, Luis Azurmendi delivered a lecture and colloquium entitled “Frentes marítimos en ciudades atlánticas” (seaside waterfronts in Atlantic cities), which focused on the seaside façades at Bordeaux, Caen, Amsterdam and Santander.
