Award of PhD grants (7th edition)

The 2016/2017 Fundación Juanelo Turriano grants for PhD. dissertations have now been awarded.

At their 24 October 2016 meeting, the judges awarded grants to conduct the following studies:

Agustín de Betancourt y Molina’s legacy: CAD/CAE-based analysis of his contributions to civil engineering, submitted by Eduardo de la Morena de la Fuente

Inns, roadhouses and hostels in the province of Murcia, submitted by Rosario Baños Oliver

The high quality of all the submissions received is a source of satisfaction for Fundación Juanelo Turriano, which thanks all the participants for their efforts and interest.

Turriano ICOHTEC PRIZE. Call for papers

ICOHTEC (International Committee for the History of Technology) is calling for papers for the Turriano ICOHTEC Prize (formerly the ICOHTEC Prize for Young Scholars) for history of technology research.

Sponsored by Fundación Juanelo Turriano, the 3000-euro prize will be awarded on the occasion of the forthcoming ICOHTEC Congress to be held at Rio de Janeiro on 23 to 29 July 2017.

 The deadline for receiving submissions is 3 February 2017.

Eduardo Torroja Museum

On 23 October, the Spanish Minister of Education, Culture and Sport, Íñigo Méndez de Vigo, presided the opening ceremony for the new Eduardo Torroja Museum, sited at Madrid’s La Zarzuela Racecourse.

The museum exhibits include scale models, drawings, documents, photographs, journals and books referring to the eponymous engineer and his times. The ceremony was attended by José Antonio Torroja, President of the Fundación Eduardo Torroja, Juan Antonio Santamera, President of the Chartered Institute of Civil Engineers, Faina Zurita, President of La Zarzuela Racecourse, Alfredo Pérez de Armiñán, President of the Crown Heritage and Pepa Cassinello, museum curator.

Fundación Juanelo Turriano participates in the showing with the loan of its scale model of Algeciras Market Hall, one of Torroja’s most emblematic engineering works.

International Spanish-American Congress on the History of Construction. Submission of abstracts
International Spanish-American Congress on the History of Construction. Submission of abstracts

Abstracts are now being accepted for the Second International Spanish-American Congress on the History of Construction, to be held at San Sebastián on 3 to 17 November 2017.

The submission deadline is 1 February 2017.
