Arquitectura hidráulica y forma urbana. [Waterworks and urban layout]. University outreach course

A course entitled Arquitectura hidráulica y forma urbana [Waterworks and urban layout] will be held at the National Distance University’s (UNED) Associated Institution at Segovia on 9-11 November. It is organised by the UNED in conjunction with the sponsor, Fundación Juanelo Turriano.

It is geared to historians, engineers, art and science historians, architects, geographers and anyone interested in the subject and will include a guided tour of Segovia’s Roman aqueduct.

Directed by Alicia Cámara (UNED) and Bernardo Revuelta Pol (Fundación Juanelo Turriano), the course carries one ECTS and two elective credits.

A video recording of the lecture entitled Un encuentro posible. Historia e ingeniería [History and engineering, seeking common grounds] delivered by Daniel Crespo Delgado, Fundación Juanelo Turriano researcher, is now available.

Organised with the support of Red de la Innovación y de las Nuevas Tecnologías en la Ingeniería Civil [INTEC, network for innovation and new technologies in Civil Engineering], the lecture was held on 27 September at Madrid’s Residencia de Estudiantes.

The podcasts of the radio series Ingenieros de la monarquía hispánica en el Renacimiento[The Spanish monarchy’s Renaissance engineers] produced for the programme ‘Preguntas a la Historia’ [questions for history] by Spanish public broadcaster Radio 5 in collaboration with CanalUned are now available.

In brief biographies of these engineers, Alicia Cámara Muñoz highlights their many duties while in the king’s service.

Alicia is Head of the History of Art Department at the National Distance University (UNED) and member of the Fundación Juanelo Turriano Advisory Commission.

Communications may now be submitted for the 46th ICOHTEC (International Committee for the History of Technology) Symposium, which will address the theme Technology and Power at Katowice, Poland, on 22 to 27 July 2019.

The deadline for submission is 15 January.
